To
make things easier for you, upon arrival at the house, you will find
a folder containing various brochures and relevant information regarding
all the activities that can be pursued in the area.
Links:
www.ardech-wines.com.fr: a well prepared site with itineries for trips
to the surrounding vineyards – ideal if you take your wine-tasting
seriously! Incidently, the vineyards association hold a major wine-tasting
event every year on a weekend in November , so why not come over and
enjoy great wines and the beautiful autumn colours?
Local
shopping and dining:
We strongly advise you to order some Chestnut Bread at Le Mas de la
Vieille, the Grocer’s in Labastide de Virac. We have found theirs
to be the best in the area. You can also order your daily croissants
and baguette there too! The Shop is very much home-run: you ring the
bell and Madame comes across from her home to open it for you. There
are therefore no formal opening and closing hours or days. An excellent
Bakery can be found in Barjac, rue Saint Michel. We have been very happy
to get our meat in Barjac from the Butcher right behind the Church.
Another excellent butcher can be found in Orgnac, Boucherie Alzas. During
the season, the butcher’s truck comes to Labastide once a week,
in the mornings or can be found on Friday's at the Market in Barjac.
Fruit, vegetables and cheese are best bought on the Market days in the
various towns in the area. (See list in the folder at the house).
One thing you must not miss: Buy a “Tarte” salty or sweet,
at the stall that you will find just before coming into Salavas, on
the left side of the road as you drive towards Vallon Pont d’Arc.
We have found them to be unforgettable!
If you intend to go out for a meal or two, we have always been well
served at reasonable prices (basic, copious menu at €16.00) at
the “Charabanc” in Salavas, just before Vallon Pont d’Arc,
coming from Labastide. As mentioned previously, the “Petite Auberge”
in Labastide itself is excellent, although somewhat pricier.
In
Barjac, we have found the “Esplanade” to be well worth a
visit, and, in the other direction, the “Table du Verger”
in Vallon Pont d’Arc serves great meals at an acceptable price.
Excellent meals at reasonable prices are also served at the “Hotel
des Stalagmites” in Orgnac.
